The five members in charge of every ETC card we issue.
Every ETC card application, every monthly invoice, every customer question — handled by the same five-member system, with a human final approval on anything that affects a customer.

SoraETC Operations DirectorSora signs off on every ETC card application, billing cycle, and customer-impacting change before it goes out. Final approval lives with Sora.
RinETC QA LeadRin cross-checks every ETC application packet, every invoice, and every account change. Edge cases route to a human, never auto-resolved.
YukiSenior AI Analyst — ApplicationsYuki processes incoming ETC card applications — verifying residency status, ID documents, and shipping requirements in both Japanese and English.
HanaSenior AI Analyst — BillingHana handles monthly invoices, year-end ETC tax reports, and reconciliation of toll discounts and commuter mileage credits.
AoiSenior AI Analyst — SupportAoi answers ETC customer questions in English and Japanese — billing dashboard help, deployment-month pauses, replacement cards, anything the customer needs.
AI assists with extraction and verification — it does not guarantee outcomes. Anything that affects a customer is reviewed by a person before it leaves the team.

Why we built this
In 2011 we began knocking on doors — banks, NEXCO, government channels — trying to build an English-language ETC service for Japan. After two full years and twelve straight "no"s, the thirteenth attempt finally became a "yes". JapanETCcard.com exists because foreign residents, U.S. military families and embassy staff in Japan kept hitting the same wall: a system that only worked smoothly in Japanese. We built this service to work the way Japan's ETC system already works — but in a form people can actually access in English, with real bilingual support behind it.
- Started from real customer friction
- Built around observed pain points
- 13 years of continuous operation
The next-generation JapanETCcard — JapanCardETC.com
www.JapanCardETC.com is currently our temporary domain — a live staging environment where the next-generation site is being built and verified. It carries forward everything JapanETCcard has built since 2013, layered onto a more automated application, operations and support foundation.
Until integration testing and operational validation are complete, JapanETCcard.com remains the service of record. The new platform is scheduled to go live on December 31, 2026 — the same day our sister service JapanTollReceipts.jp launches its new production site, so the two next-generation experiences arrive together.

Reliable Toll Usage History
This release improves the reliability of viewing toll usage history behind the scenes. When looking at a very large period — such as a full billing month that covers a large batch of trips — the usage view could previously take too long and fail to load. Now the trip records load promptly and are always shown first; the running grand total is calculated separately and, for exceptionally large periods, simply shows as unavailable with a clear note rather than holding up the whole page. Normal and smaller date ranges are unaffected and continue to show exact totals instantly. Importantly, no billing rules, toll calculations, deposit amounts, permissions, or account policies were changed by this release.

Live Analytics & Freshness Indicator
This release makes our public customer-growth analytics reports update promptly and stay consistent with each other. Previously, after new customer information was added behind the scenes, some analytics pages could briefly show older totals than others; now every report refreshes together within moments of a change, so the numbers you see always line up. We also added a clear 'Data last synced' time (shown in Japan Standard Time) right beneath the headline on the customer-growth and Okinawa reports, so you and your partners can see at a glance exactly how current the figures are. Importantly, no billing rules, toll calculations, deposit amounts, permissions, or account policies were changed by this release.

Data Protection & Import Reliability
This release strengthens how we protect your personal information and makes our behind-the-scenes account imports more reliable. Newly imported customer records are now always stored using the same strong encryption we use for new sign-ups, and an import will safely stop with a clear, recoverable message rather than ever saving information unprotected. We also improved how imports recognise existing customers — so long-standing accounts and newly protected accounts are matched correctly and duplicates are prevented. Failed notification emails can now be safely retried, and file uploads fail more gracefully when storage is temporarily unavailable. A broader set of automated security and reliability tests now runs against the system. Importantly, no billing rules, toll calculations, deposit amounts, permissions, or account policies were changed by this release.

Reliability & Security Improvements
This release focuses on reliability and safety behind the scenes. We made our internal Admin operations pages more dependable, so that a temporary connection hiccup can no longer be mistaken for an empty list or an 'all clear' result — instead you now see a clear local error message with a Retry option. We also improved sign-in and session-expiry handling, strengthened the protection of customer information in Admin responses, and hardened our AI assistant's validation and failure handling. A broader set of automated reliability and failure-recovery tests now runs against the system. Importantly, no customer billing rules, deposit amounts, toll calculations, permissions, or account policies were changed by this release.

Legal Pages in Japanese
Our key legal pages now read fully in Japanese. The Terms of Service, the Customer User Agreement, the Road Operator Rules directory and the Specified Commercial Transactions disclosure are all available in natural Japanese, replacing the earlier "in preparation" notice. Company details, prices, deposit amounts, dates and official registration numbers are kept exactly the same as in the English versions. The Road Operator Rules page title and summary now also appear in Japanese when sharing the page. The main legal index remains "in preparation" until its remaining documents are fully translated and reviewed.
