Highway toll receipts flowing through an ETC gate

Our Story · JapanTollReceipts

Built from a real problem in Japan's ETC system.

JapanTollReceipts.jp began with a simple question: why should drivers, businesses, and organizations have to wait weeks to understand their own toll usage? After years of serving ETC customers in Japan, we saw how delayed billing, missing receipts, manual reports, and fleet oversight problems created real stress for people every month.

“JapanTollReceipts.jp did not begin as a software idea. It began with pain. The pain of foreigners and military members who could not get ETC card access. The pain of customers who had access but could not get receipts when they needed them.”

  1. 01 · The original pain

    Physically in Japan, financially invisible.

The first problem we set out to solve was that many foreign residents in Japan — U.S. military families, SOFA personnel, diplomats, missionaries, expats — could not obtain an ETC card. Not because they were unwilling to follow the rules, but because they were almost invisible to Japan's normal financial screening system. On top of that, ETC charges can appear weeks — sometimes close to two months — after the actual trip, creating a second pain: customers needed receipts NOW, and the data simply wasn't there yet.

  2. 02 · MEISAI existed — but it wasn't easy to use

The official data was there. What was missing was the layer around it.

The solution already existed in one form: MEISAI. The official data was there. What was missing was the layer around it — the system was manual, slow, and not designed for daily use by drivers, families, small businesses, fleet managers, accounting teams, or government offices. So we started by trying to solve it for our own customers first. And once it worked, the realization landed hard — this is much bigger than us. This is a Japan problem.

  3. 03 · Why we keep building

Each pain point led to the next. That is why we keep building.

The pain of foreigners and military members who could not get ETC card access. The pain of customers who had access but could not get receipts when they needed them. The pain of businesses managing expenses manually. The pain of managers who needed better visibility over fleet usage. And the future shape of Japan's expressway access — ETC-only gates, more drivers and organizations depending on ETC than ever. One receipt, one driver, one account at a time — we'll keep earning that trust.

  4. 04 · The solution we built

MEISAI, made usable — automatically, in your language, on your schedule.

JapanTollReceipts.jp is the layer Japan's MEISAI data was missing. We connect securely to the official ETC usage record (with the driver's authorization), normalize each trip, attach the right toll, vehicle plate, and time stamp, and deliver the result as a clean PDF receipt or CSV export — daily, weekly, or monthly, however the customer needs it. Bilingual EN/JA out of the box. No copy-paste from MEISAI. No fighting with paper. Personal drivers get end-of-year tax reports. Small businesses get accountant-ready CSVs. Fleet managers get per-vehicle and per-driver dashboards. Embassies, missionary organizations, and government offices get exactly the audit trail they need — without anyone having to chase it.

  5. 05 · What it means today

The receipt problem we set out to solve is now an everyday workflow.

The thing customers used to chase for weeks — month-end toll receipts, accountant-ready CSVs, fleet-wide trip records, year-end tax statements — now arrives automatically, in the customer's inbox and dashboard, on the schedule they choose. We've made MEISAI work the way it was always supposed to. And because JapanTollReceipts.jp is bridged with JapanETCcard.com, eligible JEC members are auto-enrolled and start receiving reports the moment they activate from their dashboard. This is the outcome the original pain pointed toward — and it's running, today, for real customers across Japan.
